| Galatians 1:6-8 |
According to the book of Mormon from the beginning of time there were trillions of planets which are ruled by many gods. These gods were once human like us. Long ago on one of these planets an unknown god and one of his wives gave birth to a spirit child. His name was Elohim. This child was later born to human parents who gave him a physical body.
Mormons believe that Elohim is their heavenly Father and that he lives with his many wives on a planet were he and his wives produce many spirit children. They say that two of Elohim's children were Lucifer and Jesus. That means Jesus and Satan are brothers.
Mormon Apostle Orson Hyde taught that after Jesus grew to manhood he took at least three wives: Mary, Martha and Mary Magdalene. With these wives Jesus supposedly had many children. Joseph Smith is supposed to be one of these children. After Jesus arose from the dead the Mormons believe that he came to the Americas to preach to the Indians, who the Mormons believe are really Israelites. The Mormons thank God for Joseph Smith, who claimed that he had done more for us than any other man, including Jesus Christ. The Mormons claim that he died as a martyr, shedding his blood for us so that we too may become gods.
Galatians 1:6-8 says,
![]() Daniel 2:4 |
"I marvel (I am amazed) that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you (God) in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another (it isn't real); but there are some who trouble you (confuse and bother you) and want to pervert (change) the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." |
The Mormon's gospel is different They've changed the gospel of Jesus. They say it came from an angel from heaven. What should we do when Mormons come to our house? How can we witness to them? We will talk more about what to do when cult people come to our door. If you're a weak or young Christian you shouldn't let them into your house or discuss religion with them. But if you are mature and strong in your faith here is what you can do.
1. THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPERIENCE TO MORMONS
Mormon missionaries want to give people the book of Mormon, to have them pray to God with a sincere heart, and ask God if this book is true. In the beginning of the book of Mormon they often write the passage Moroni 10:4. It says, "And when you shall receive these things, I would exhort you that you would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if you shall ask with a sincere heart, he will manifest (or show) the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Spirit." The Mormons ask, "If you sincerely ask your Heavenly Father to guide you, do you feel He would deceive you? No. So pray and ask God if this is true or not."
Many Mormons say, "I became a Mormon because I prayed to God and I felt a burning in my soul and I know it is true." They believe because they say they have had an experience. So what do we do. Let me give you some help.
2. QUESTIONS TO ASK. Here are some questions to ask a Mormon.
A. Why do you believe Mormonism is true? Have him tell you every reason he can think of. Write down his answers. Keep asking him, "Is there any other reason(s)?"
B. Does the book of Mormon teach what Mormons believe? Is all of it completely true?
C. What do you believe about God? (Mormons believe that God was once a man. They believe he had a body of flesh and bones. They believe he lives in heaven with his wives. They believe the God Elohim is one of thousands of gods in the universe.) Have him tell you everything he believes about God. Write down each point.
D. Then ask him if he can show you in the book of Mormon where it says that these things are true. He will not be able to. Because what he believes is not in the book of Mormon. Then show him that the book of Mormon actually teaches ...
3. ANSWERS TO SHOW
A. There is one true God. Alma 11:26-29; 2 Nephi 11:7; 3 Nephi 11:14; Mosiah 16:15. The Mormons teach that there are many, many gods. But the book of Mormon says there is one God. Nowhere does the book of Mormon teach that there are many gods or that man can become a god.
B. This one true God is a spirit. Alma 18:24-28; 22:9-11. Mormons teach that God has a body of flesh and bones like man does. But these Mormon verses teach that God is a Spirit. The book of Mormon does not teach that God has a body of flesh and bones.
C. This one true God is triune.2 Nephi 31:21; Mosiah 15:2-5; 3 Nephi 11:27,36. The book of Mormon teaches that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one triune God.
D. This one true God is unchanging. Mormon 9:11,19; Moroni 8:18. The Mormons teach "As man is, God once was, and as God is, man may become." But these Mormon verses teach that God is unchanging.
4. CHALLENGE TO GIVE
How can you pray to God and feel this book is true when it does not teach the same thing you and the Mormon church believe? Have you ever prayed the same prayer while reading the Bible? Have you ever read the whole Bible? It is only fair that I ask you to do the same thing that you have asked me to do. Share the gospel with them from the Bible. Do not use the book of Mormon for this.
